Wear the Past in the Future is an innovative fashion sustainability project that brings discarded second-hand clothing back to life through augmented reality (XR). By embedding XR technology into pre-loved garments, this project transforms old textiles into interactive fashion pieces, overlaying 3D animations that tell the story of their past and reinvent their future. A response to fast fashion, this work promotes reusability, sustainability, and digital integration in clothing.

My Role:
I designed and developed the concept, integrating XR and second-hand fashion to challenge the industry’s approach to waste. By combining digital storytelling with wearable garments, I explored how technology can extend the life of discarded fashion.

Solution:

Each second-hand garment was embedded with an XR trigger that, when scanned, would overlay custom 3D animations, digital textures, or interactive elements onto the fabric. The animations gave new meaning to the garments, connecting them to their history, previous owners, or cultural significance.

The project aimed to:

  • Reduce textile waste by making second-hand clothing desirable again.

  • Engage a new audience by integrating immersive, tech-driven fashion experiences.

  • Challenge fast fashion’s disposability by creating digital-physical hybrids.

  •

Result:

Wear the Past in the Future was a statement against the fashion industry’s wasteful cycle, while embracing the future of interactive, sustainable design. It showcased a new way to experience fashion, proving that history and technology can co-exist to redefine wearability.
