My Role:

I worked closely with NYCap3D to develop an optimised 3D scanning pipeline for capturing ASICS footwear. My role included:

​

  • Pipeline Development: Consulting on best practices for 3D scanning, ensuring high-quality digital captures.

  • 3D Asset Processing: Cleaning up, retopologising, and texturing over 30 ASICS shoe models in Substance Painter, ensuring high realism within budget and time constraints.

  • Optimisation for VR: Ensured real-time performance and visual fidelity by optimising assets for virtual retail experiences.

  • Team Leadership: Managed an outsourced team to meet tight deadlines, training, asset management, balancing speed and quality.

  • Daily Liaison: Worked closely with ASICS and NYCap3D teams to ensure VR assets met brand specifications and functioned seamlessly in the virtual space.

Solution:

With physical retail heavily impacted by COVID-19, ASICS aimed to create a virtual storefront where customers could interact with realistic 3D versions of their performance footwear. This required:

​

  • High-resolution 3D scanning and model refinement

  • Texture and material accuracy to match real-world products

  • Optimisation for VR and real-time applications

Result:

The project successfully digitised over 30 ASICS shoes for an innovative virtual reality retail launch. ASICS was able to provide a seamless and interactive experience for customers, setting a new industry benchmark for digital retail experiences.

 

ASICS increased their asset requirement from 20 to 40 models, mid project. By coordinating remote support, I optimised workflow and ensured ASICS’ launch stayed on schedule.
